When I was growing up, my mother was very strict. One of the rules was to make my bed every day, and keep my bedroom neat and organized. Actually, the whole house was neat and organized. Somehow I didn't "inherit" that trait from my Mother ;-) We believe our house should look "lived in" ;-)
While we are strict with our kids in many ways, we do let them have their personal space...aka bedrooms. Of the 3, one is better than the rest in regards to being somewhat organized, in her own special way. One has piles that can be cleaned up in the course of a weekend. The last one...well, it looks like a disaster area! And when prompted to actually go thru it...can take days. I think she gets sidetracked with all the neat things she finds buried in the piles.
Most of the piles is dirty laundry, extra pillows from the bed that never get back on the bed, paperwork or books from school, and I don't even want to know the content of the other piles.
My husband is the one who had to teach me to let their rooms be their comfort zones. Everyone needs a place where they can chill and destress.
Yes, their bedroom doors stay closed so I don't see them as I walk by. And we also don't let Grandma go upstairs.
